Abstract
Thurston showed in 1976 that if a 3-manifold N fibers over the circle, then S^1 x N supports a symplectic structure. We show that the converse holds: if S^1 x N is symplectic, then N fibers over S^1. This is joint work with Stefano Vidussi.
