This lecture provides an introduction to the IMA Workshop on Large-scale Inverse Problems and Quantification of Uncertainty. We present context and motivation for the workshop topic along with a discussion of open research challenges. We will discuss workshop goals and provide a brief overview of the workshop schedule.
