Alex Kontorovich Rutgers University We discuss a number of problems from homogeneous dynamics and discrepancy theory which have been unified under the umbrella of local-global principles for "thin" orbits. We will explain what comes almost for free from uniform spectral gaps, and the "beyond expansion" program to go further.
