Abstract
Emilio Ferrara USC Information Sciences Institute ISI In this tutorial I will first introduce some basic social network concepts and measures, and then provide a live demonstration of social network analysis and visualization by using Gephi. The first part will cover elements such as social network representation, centrality measures, social graph properties, dynamic networks, etc. I will then illustrate how to use Gephi to load social network datasets, extract insights from network statistics, and use effective network layout algorithms for visualization and interactive inspection. The ideal audience for this tutorial is researchers in humanities and social sciences who are seeking to learn more about networks in general, as well as Gephi (or similar tools) readily available for network analysis and visualization. I will provide useful pointers to online resources (including network dataset repositories, analytics libraries, etc.) throughout the tutorial.
