Jill Mesirov University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Center for Genome Research The sequencing of the human genome and the development of new and more economical methods for acquiring biological data have changed the face of medical research. The use of mathematical and computational approaches is critical to take advantage of this explosion in biological information. I will describe some recent discoveries resulting from the analysis of these data and their implications for the understanding and treatment of cancer.
