Abstract
More and more organizations are looking to improve their competitiveness by leveraging analysis, simulation, and systems engineering for improved design decision support, Simulation-Driven Design, generative design and robust performance evaluation of their full portfolio of products and processes. The demand for software tools for Engineering Simulation are exploding to support the demand for increased competitiveness and to deal with the rapidly growing complexity of products, processes, and systems. This increased demand for Engineering Simulation has also made many ask “what is the role of Machine Learning in Engineering Simulation. The engineering simulation community continues to make steady but slow progress on broader and broader usage of simulation tools and growth of the engineering simulation market. However, the business drivers based on recognition of engineering simulation as key to competitiveness are increasing the demand for simulation at a much greater pace and are going to force a Simulation Revolution enabling significantly eider usage and benefit of engineering simulation software. The ASSESS (Analysis, Simulation, and Systems Engineering Software Strategies) Initiative was formed to bring together key players for guiding and influencing the software strategies with a primary goal to facilitate this revolution of enablement that will vastly increase the availability and utility of engineering simulation, leading to significantly increased usage and business benefit from these computing technologies across the full spectrum of industries, applications and users. The ASSESS Initiative interacts and collaborate with multiple initiatives, activities and organizations across the complete spectrum of Engineering Simulation, including NAFEMS, INCOSE, IEEE, ASME, and many others.
