We build some background to relate T_a//Gamma_a and Ghat_a, where T_a is Bernstein's complex torus (a finite quotient of the complex torus, consisting of all unramified characters of M) and Gamma_a is a certain subgroup of the Weyl group of M, and Ghat_a is the Bernstein component.
