Ginzburg discussed quivers and quiver varieties. He then shows that the representations of a quiver have homological dimension 1, i.e. such a stack of objects is smooth. Ginzburg introduces the notion of Hamiltonian reduction for quivers and Donaldson-Thomas invariants.
