Abstract
On Cooperation and Capacity: Insights from the Edge Michelle Effros California Institute of Technology Cooperation is a strategy for improving performance over wireless networks. In communication systems employing cooperation, communicating devices exchange information not for the purpose of communication with each other but instead for the purpose of improving communication capabilities between other devices in the network. Investigation of the costs and benefits of cooperation turns up a variety of surprising lessons about when, where, and by how much cooperation benefits can exceed their costs. This talk will focus on lessons learned and the techniques developed to derive them.
