Abstract
Wave propagation in optical lattices with honeycomb background, termed Photonic Graphene, is investigated. A tight binding approximation leads to a coupled mode system. In bulk media a nonlinear Dirac type system is obtained which describes conical, elliptical and straight-line diffraction. With rapidly varying helical waveguides linear and nonlinear edge waves are found which can be unidirectional and related to underlying topology. Edge waves in bounded domains can have transmitting or reflecting behavior. Nonlinear edge waves can enhance transmission characteristics. If time allows rogue waves in elliptically birefringent optical fibers will be discussed. Similar results were recently found in water waves.
